Although Houston is not being associated with being a very artistic city, the fourth largest city of the United States of America has developed and nurtured a few very fine museums over the past centuries.

First, and probably best known is the Museum of fine arts, which opened its doors in 1924. It served as a role model as it was the first art museum ever in the state of Texas. Almost 3 million visitors stroll through the 300.000 square feet of exhibition space each and every year.

Another very well-known museum is the Houston Museum of Natural Science, which was established in 1909.

If your main interest is more militaristic, the Buffalo Soldier Museum, which features a fine collection of art and memorabilia regarding the Buffalo Soldiers, may be an insider recommendation.

And those of you that are interested in history, will surely find a spot in the densely filled schedule that enables them to visit the San Jacinto Museum. Why is it that important, you might ask. The answer is simple: At San Jacinto, the state of Texas became independent.

At the battleground as well as the monument you can find an amazing amount of information that will surely help you to understand the history of Texas and Houston much better.

Yet another museum does is worth being visited is the Holocaust Museum. Even though the Holocaust did not take place in the United States, this place is dedicated to all people that suffered from the Holocaust. Its main goal is to educate and inform about the cruelties that took place during this period of time. It does so by incorporating various exhibits as well as modern displays that allow the visitor to gain a better insight into what happened more than 60 years ago.
